Thomas Miller

Thomas "Tom" Miller (May 14, 1942 – January 22, 2018) was an American logistics dispatcher, regional trucking founder, and community figure in Ohio.

Early Life

Miller was born in Youngstown, Ohio, to Arthur and Martha Miller. He grew up in a working-class neighborhood during the post-war industrial boom. He showed an early interest in mechanics and radio technology, often spending his weekends helping his father repair local delivery trucks.

Career

In 1965, Miller founded Miller Logistics, starting with a single flatbed truck. Over the next three decades, he expanded the company to a fleet of over 50 vehicles. He was widely respected for his "drivers-first" approach, often personally filling in on long-haul routes when his employees needed time off for family matters.

During the Great Blizzard of 1978, Miller gained local recognition for coordinating emergency supply deliveries to snowbound rural counties. He utilized his amateur radio skills to communicate with isolated communities, ensuring that essential food and medical supplies reached those in need when standard communication lines failed.

Later Life and Legacy

After retiring in 2005, Miller dedicated his time to the Youngstown Historical Society and mentored young entrepreneurs interested in the logistics industry. He remained an active amateur radio enthusiast (callsign W8TOM) until his death in 2018.

His descendants created this entry to ensure that the everyday labor and community service he provided remain a part of the regional midwest's historical record.
